You may have read in About that one day I would love to grow a large garden full of veggies, leafy greens, flowers, and root crops. This desire comes from my amazing mother. This weekend I have been able to spend more time with my mum than time usually allows, granted its because of the declining health of my grandmother, but it’s still nice to have a bit of time with them both.
More time with mum means more time in her wonderful garden!
My favorite part of this garden is the entrance to our yard. Mum’s designed it with mostly native Vancouver Island plants including:
- Blueberries (my personal favorite… I’m barely out of my car before attacking them!)
- Nootka Rose
- Oregon Grape
- Nerine Lily
Then theres the garden with its lush strawberries, grown over raspberries, goosberries, red currents, beans, peas, carrots, radishes, beets and more lettuce and greens verieties than you can imagine!
If you have the opportunity to eat directly from a garden, please take it, it is so increadibly revitalizing!
Then theres the inside of my mothers home: filled with my sister’s spider plants and my mother’s plethora of orchids! Its beautiful.
And of course… Maggie likes coming home to mums too.
